One hundred years of Labour

This photograph shows the Labour and Co-operative MP John Stonehouse campaigning in the 1950s and is from the Institute’s London Co-operative Society archive. The collection provides numerous areas of interest for those researching the Parliamentary Labour Party, such as the papers of the Society’s Political Committee which records its involvement with Labour and co-operative politics in London and includes minutes, papers and photographs.

The archive also contains the papers of Caroline Selena Ganley, Labour MP for Battersea South between 1945 and 1951, along with papers and photographs concerning the activities of other numerous Labour/Co-op MPs, such as Alf Barnes, Percy Holman, Laurie Pavitt, Alf Lomas, Joyce Butler and Stan Newens. The collection also contains a large volume of printed material, including books, pamphlets and journals recording the influence of co-operative politics on the Labour Party and the labour movement.
